Second Door-To-Door Salesman Arrested On Peninsula

Days After Elderly Woman Was Attacked

The 19 year-old man accused of assaulting an 80 year-old Menlo Park woman is being investigated for possibly committing other crimes in the U.S.. Dangelo Langford of Georgia worked as a magazine solicitor and traveled from city to city. The company he worked for has apparently hired convicted felons in the past.

Police say 19 year-old Dangelo Langford assaulted an 80-year-old woman at her Menlo Park home Wednesday night.

In court Friday, prosecutors hinted there may be other victims in other states.

Langford and others went door to door selling magazine subscriptions for American Community Services based in Indiana.

Sgt. Van Trask, Menlo Park police: "The whole group would be dropped off at certain locations throughout the town and they would solicit magazines all day long and they would be picked up and brought back to like a motel complex and the crew would move on to another city."

Police also discovered there was a warrant out for Langford in Georgia on charges he assaulted someone with a firearm. A co-worker, Josh Edward Davis, was also arrested yesterday in Palo Alto after police say Davis failed to register as a sex offender.

Ross Colvin, Menlo Park resident: "If I understand the story correctly, they are being brought in from outside the community and so are just plopped in the community and told to go out. My question is what are you doing to check these people."

Elizabeth Colvin, Menlo Park resident: "I don't like people coming to my door anyway and I don't feel that safe when they do. I don't want them here and it's even more upsetting if they're not even from around here."

Police acknowledged the community wants these solicitors out of their neighborhoods.

Sgt. Van Trask, Menlo Park police: "I know a lot of people are calling in reporting suspicious people now, more and more of these solicitors are being called upon."

American Community Services does not have a permit to sell subscriptions in San Mateo County. We could not reach the company for a comment.

Three years ago another traveling magazine salesman with that same company killed a 67-year-old woman in her Tennessee home.
