I purchased a magazine subscription from door to door salesperson stating she was trying to win points to pay toward college tuition. I subscribed to one magazine for a much higher rate than normally advertised. Just did it to help! Was told I had to make an initial deposit of $26.00 - which I did on 4/29.02. On 5/15 & 5/23, I received an invoice from Chapel Sales requesting the balance of $25.00. Mailed balance 5/29/02. As of 9/10/02, I still have not received the magazine.
I recently contacted the company via email to inquire why magazine had not been received, and after about 1 1/2 weeks I was told they were just processing my order today. The email note stated they had problems with my address info., and it would take another 6-12 weeks before I would be receiving my magazine. I stated to them that no one had contacted me to clarify address info, and that I had no problems receiving their invoices. Needless to say I let them know this was very poor service and would never purchase from them again.
As a result, I would like to tell the public to slam the door in their face if a salesperson from Chapel Sales approach them to purchase magazines.
Here's more information on my order that I have not received yet. I purchased [magazine name] on 4/27/02. My invoice number is xxx-xxx-xxxx.
Dear Customer,
We will need to know your order number and address so we can check the status of your order. The order number should start with an A, B, or C.
Thank you,
Lakisha
The order number is Cxxxxxx, and my address is [omitted] - Dallas, Texas xxxxx.
Dear Customer,
Your order cleared 09-10-02, please allow 6 to 12 weeks for delivery.
Thank you,
Lakisha
What do you mean my ordered "cleared" on 9/10/02. Final payment was made on May 29. It has been over 12 weeks already.

Was there an address change on your order?
Your order # C xxxxxx, dated 5/27/02. We received your final payment on 5/31/02. Yet for some reason your order did not clear to the publisher until now 9/10/02. This is unusual unless there was a "bad-address" flag and was awaiting the correct address.
Anyway it has been transferred to Magnetic Tape along with thousands of others and is on its way to the publishers.
We do apologize for any inconvenience. You will receive the full term as ordered.
Thank you.
CSI.
After filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, Nancy received a refund from Chapel Sales for $51.
Congratulations Nancy!
Chapel Sales failed to provide Nancy with any plausible explanation for their handling of this order.
How many other orders did Chapel Sales find some reason to fail to clear due to a "bad address"? What small fraction of those customers keep their records in such good order that they would remember to follow up? How many have even held onto the receipt so that they know whom to contact and can provide the order number?
There's no reason that the order number should be required. Since they obviously had an address that was good enough to send the bill to, there was no excuse for not contacting the customer if there was some kind of question about the address.
If you decide to order from a field sales agent, make sure that your address is legible and that you hold onto the receipt. Better yet, don't get sucked in by these operations that try to take advantage of your desire to help others out.
