What a great way to get votes! Send spam to the electorate. Even better, send spam to the non-electorate.
Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's campaign has evidently employed some service to try to find the email addresses of the Detroit electorate. They apparently used some service that tries to guess whether an email address is a voter in a particular area. I guess that's why, as a resident of Palo Alto, California, I got spam containing the September 13, 2005 e-newsletter of the Kilpatrick for Mayor campaign.
I can promise these folks one thing: I won't be voting to re-elect Mayor Kilpatrick. I wouldn't be surprised if a number of people who would have voted for Mayor Kilpatrick will now change their mind. It's a sad reason for making a decision, but if our public officials are going to abuse their consitutency this way, they can expect the constituency to respond accordingly.
