The quotation which follows is my personal selection from "The Words of My Perfect Teacher", a book which is intended as a guide to the spiritual practices common to Tibetan Buddhist traditions. The context of this quote is that it is advice offered to a monk who is considering entering into business. Any similarity to the practices of DirectBuy is purely coincidental.
People who have merchandise to sell, however shoddy in reality, extol its qualities in whatever ways they can think up.
They tell outright lies, such as how this or that potential buyer has already offered this much for it, which they had refused; or how they originally bought it for this or that huge sum...
They indulge in worthless chatter by demanding ridiculous prices or haggling for things that they have no intention of buying. ...
They envy and covet other people's possessions, trying their best to be given them.
They wish harm on their competitors, wanting always to get the better of them.
