We've got a scam going around the county. This one is targeting high school age students and gaining financial assistance for college. One of our readers who is also a college professor alerted us to this: "Special Invitation " from Edifi about College Financial aid targeting 9th and 10th graders. No real details or address, just a phone number. I suspect others in the county received this invitation as well.

This is basically a scam...... "... number of students who have received a letter from an organization called Edifi College Financial Aid Services and asked to attend an informational meeting regarding financial aid and college scholarships. At the end of the presentation, the organization offers to fill out financial aid forms and secure scholarships for students if the student/family pays an $800 fee. Please be aware that financial aid assistance is required to be provided to students FREE of charge and there are many FREE resources available to students as they are filling out financial aid applications and applying for scholarships ..."

It does not cost to apply for financial aid at colleges. WVU-Tech, WVU, WV State, Glenville State,.... any of our state colleges will be happy to help students and families apply at no charge.
