At the google groups site -- http://groups.google.com -- you can enter search arguments to search the usenet discussion groups indexed by google.

After doing a search of the groups (or sometimes even before), you can click to another search, such as "web" or "news".

If one of the search arguments contains a dollar sign ($) and you switch to a different type of search, then the search arguments from the dollar sign on get duplicated in the new search.

This was observer in IE6 SP1 runing on Win2K and WinXP as well as Firefox 1.0.

To reproduce:

  1. go to http://groups.google.com
  2. in the search field, type: dollar$sign
  3. click on the search button
  4. on the new page, cick on the web link
  5. observe that on the new page, the search field now reads dollar$sign$sign

I tried this now and the problem seems to be fixed.
