There's a package somewhere with your name on it... you definitely have the right to receive this package. This is not a shipping and handling scam, that's paid by the sponsor. But you will have to pay a "release fee".
We won't tell you what's in the package, but this is not a lottery... you've definitely won the prize in your package.
There's nothing new about this ploy, which has been in use for years... but aside from the claim that it's not a game of chance, how is it different from a sweepstakes?
That's easy! There's no "free" method of entry.
In Congressional hearings held in 1999, the U.S. Congress expressed it's dismay over sweepstakes presentations that led people to believe that they had won prizes when they had not, or had won prizes worth more than the cost of a postage stamp when they had not.
This mailing piece leads recipients to believe they will be claiming a parcel worth more than $31.95 when they probably have not.
