I hope the poster above didnt think I was a Pink Freak!!! I stand by my words that MK is a great business opportunity and ANY business opportunity should be looked at and analyzed and people should talk to others about it. Since we are talking about MK then one should talk to those who are successful and those who dropped out. If you read bad things about marriage and you want to marry someone wholeheartedly that is not going to stop you from getting married is it? Look at the TONS of money that people have lost getting married and divorced I know that may be a bad analogy but its the same thing.

I was the FIRST to admit that if people felt they were being bullied into getting large inventories that they should not do it unless they are going to work the business consistently, they can afford to do it or , the want to go full time. I DONT like the way some directors put a real 9-5 down you are getting health care and benefits but people who are self employed have to pay their own as well. I think that Laura and Wendy BOTH bring up good points and SINCE BOTH of them were and are directors its an even better viewpoint than one from a consultant although their opinions are to be valued as well. Any job has its charlatans and MK is no different. I still say once you get past the fluff and into the reality if you work it you CAN make money and you CAN be successful its not as easy as some would claim it to be though. We see the pink cars and get wrapped up into a false sense of security and when reality hits we feel duped and some of us cant take it. Some people go through DIQ 3 times and make it and are resilient not everyone is like that. Forget the girlfriend stuff bottom line MK is a business but if you are successful at it it can be fun. If you want to see some serious complaints there are TONS of websites on disgruntled AMWAY people I mean TONS. I wouldnt want to discourage anyone from doing MK or Pampered Chef or Avon or Tupperware or anything like these programs if its what they really want to do. Like I said if you want to run a catalog business then AVON is the best way to go or Tupperware I PERSONALLY feel in MK you have to be more proactive, The MK products are higher priced and people are going to want to try them more so than the Avon products. People are used to AVON being on the door. The MK approach is try before you buy and both methods have worked for BOTH companies. Im not one of these people who believes in putting another company down to recruit someone.

If Im wrong I stand corrected but WE have to hold ourselves accountable for letting that product sit on the shelf, or not at least trying something no matter what the company is. There are millions of people in this world SOMEBODY is going to buy product if you decide to drop out and if you have 600.00 worth of stuff sitting there SOMEONE is going to buy it. Its good to have these forums and Im glad that Laura took the time to post that statement from a former director but there are good and bad stories in every company not just MK. Thanks to all of you and your opinions they are heartfelt and enlightening,, Stephanie

Stephanie:

I agree with you 100%! I have had experience both good and bad with Mary Kay (See post 106) but still beleive this company is great, its how you make it! Its great we have the option for the company to buy back the products, even if its not 100%. If you were to start a franchise or personal business anything you would put into that you would NEVER get back. It definately makes the thought of going into the business and buying inventory a little easier. I am not fortunate enough to be able to buy inventory although me personally believe it would make things a little easier. I would love to provide my customers with their products right away, and lets face it, the truth is if you have to wait for the product you might not be interested in it anymore. Thats the fact. But I am running my business without inventory and my director is fine with that.

I have been reading these posts just within the last two days and have also been compelled to respond. There are a lot of bad stories, but we should also share the good. Mary Kay is a GREAT company, but nothing is perfect. Some will be burned. I feel it is good of those to share their bad stories as well as the good because it gives a more clearer picture of what you might be getting into. For me, it made me feel good to read that I'm not the only one to have had a bad experience, but on the other side there are good ones and I have experienced both. I'm not a director so I can't speak on any of those issues, however I am confused where someone said that they are told this is a "no quata's" company when everything I have IN WRITING states what the requirements are to maintain a certain status. But, that doesn't mean it didn't happen. Again, a bad seed greedy to get a head misrepresented the company and that makes the company look bad when it was that INDIVIDUAL"S fault. These forums are a great way to get more information out so that we can know what to do in those situations like turn them into corporate. I'm sure Corporate would be very ashamed to have such a person that is flaunting misinformation.

As for your inventory if you did buy product, regardless of your conditions, there are ways to get rid of it and not sell it back to the company. Have a close out sale. Ebay is a great way to do this, I see it all the time. THe point is, there are options so that you don't have to have product just sitting on your shelf. Look into your options. Be smart and think about it.
