There is one thing I think that all of us seem to be forgetting here or out of ignorance some dont know it. I have been in MK a long time (in and out that is) and when the National Sales Directors positions started it was HARD to get there. The company wanted more Nationals so they made it easier. Those commission checks were always 10,000 a month or higher. Im assuming the reason that they are lower is because once someone becomes a National who knows she may be losing Directors. Forget the fact that the check is only 7,000 a month on the low end those low end Nationals after so many years will get retirement for the rest of their lives they can still sell product if they want to and will get a car free for life as long as they are National. I was told that National could never be taken away from you. Im assuming that when they were Top Directors before they became National they were saving their money. The retire at 65 percent of their best five years I think Wendy can correct me on this. If anything happens to them they can transfer the business or the income to their family. Even if a National retires on 5000.00 a month that is MORE money than an average person retires on. The ONE think MK does that I dont like is when you become a National they take the volume bonuses away they get commissions on their 1st 2nd and 3rd lines and if I ran the company I would give them commissions on the 4th and 5th too but I dont run the company.

Hey Stephanie! You are right they do take a percentage of your best 5 years and I for some reason cannot remember the number! 65% is a good guess and I just got off the phone with my soon to be NSD Elite Executive and she would know. It may even be 80%. Then when the National passes away, that income goes to her family for the next 15 years. I don't know why they don't pay out on the lines that are further away either. I would guess it's the same thing that happens when a recruit loses her recruiter. The commission isn't paid out and that somehow helps the piggie bank. Wendy

I have to agree with Laura in the sense that for the time invested it seems like ALL of the Nationals should be pulling in 10,000 a month or more but Id rather retire at 5,000 a month than working at a job for 20 years and not seeing hardly anything. I do think that some of things will be revamped its been talked about and the company wants people to be able to make money. The nationals you see making really good money did it with first second and third lines. The ones with the lesser wanted to hurry up and do it and just have the minimum requirement. Which is 12 first lines and out of those 12 I think six of them have to be senior directors giving them a total of 6 second lines. A smart Director is not going to go National until everything is in place and she has some third lines in place in my opinion because if she loses some first lines her income will go down. When you become a National the company doesnt want you to stop working they pay out a 5,000 bonus to you if you keep springing off first lines and if you spring off another National you get a 10,000 a year bonus for life on that Nationals anniversary that you sprung off. All of the figures are published by the way this is not secret information. When a person becomes a National they dont have to worry about the end of the month production they get yearly trips for life AND a new car every two years with no production requirements. They can keep their unit but they dont get the unit volume bonuses which I personally think they should be able to keep or cut it in half or something..they are still running a unit and I think they should still be able to get the bonuses but thats just me. I look at it this way if I were on the lower end of a Nationals salary which is about 6,000 a month the average ones are making 10,000 a month and higher I would be happy with that and the free trip and the car but I look at it this way Im not greedy. I think with the time they have there is more time for them to spring off some first and second lines so they can up their paycheck. The NICE thing about the National position is its not taken away from you ever AND you can choose to keep your unit and or relinquish it. Not all of these Nationals have the high spirit of a Kathy Helou or a Lisa Madson or a Gloria Mayfield but the thing that gives me hope in this company is I see women who were making 100,000 a year to come in and do this and in the beginning its a salary cut but they see the potential. There was one consultant in the company who sold 120,000 worth of roll up bags and her income was 60,000 a year working 30 hours a week and she didnt even recruit!!!! She just sold the product. Also on the plus side there are some Grand Prix Directors making more than some Cadillac directors because of their high personal sales. Wendy is right when she says it should be based on personal sales..Mary Kay used to tell her directors if they were Full Time live off of your sales and bank your commissions!!! Of course most people dont do that but I think her directors in the beginning did it because that is how they were taught. There are a lot of women who are in their 20s and thirties that are close to being National and I think thats wonderful to think you can retire at that age on a 10,000 a month income and not have to work 60 hours a week. I dont know the ins and outs but I dont hear any Nationals complaining about anything....Believe me consultants have asked why are some of the national checks lower than some TOP Directors and I dont know the answer I think its because they made the position easier to get but the lower rung Nationals dont care because they dont have to think about end of the month production anymore all they have to do is motivate and mentor and inspire and do their National time for 5 years and then get 65 percent of their best five years and they are DONE. I dont think its a bad deal but there are some who I guess can find some faults with it. As a Top Director if you recruit in the masses you can basically figure out what your Naitonal check will be when you get there IF all of your directors hold and I see people getting those first second and third lines in place so they can hurry up and get there its really not a bad thing to strive for because if any of their first lines drop out those girls will roll up to the National and she has more people to work with to get them to be directors. I guess in terms of stress level National is the best place to be. Steph

Wendy: I am sure the National position will be tweaked before I get there. I am fine with that. They can make it twice as hard and I will just keep doing what I am doing. I know a gal who is decently close and she feels the same. Mary Kay Ash told her Directors that if they have less than 50 Unit Members, they should do the activity of a consultant and be a Director not more than 1 day per week, meeting day. If they have 100 Unit Members, they can be a Director 2-3 days per week and so on. Her point was that the Director needs to be out in the field. It is a career where you are constantly building and adding new customers and team members. If I were selling vacuum cleaners, it would be the same thing but I would be knocking on doors. In this business we have to find out where our motivation comes from and what we like to do and then research building in that way. I like expo's and they come easy to me, others like warm chattering. Some Nationals continue to maintain a Unit as Stephanie said and others do not. Some are new and are building like a new Director would and that building takes awhile. Gotta run!Wendy
