Hello Everyone!

I am a husband of a woman who sells Mary Kay.... I have been reading through almost all of the postings here. My wife works hard to keep her business going, heck she has even asked me for help (I work in the IT field), so being the nice guy that I am.... I created a couple of things to help her keep track of her business. As far as people with excess product. Remember this is a decision that we all made. No one made this decision for us. No one made us buy the product. It’s just like any other business; you have to work hard to help it succeed. I understand that its gets hard always talk to everyone about Mary Kay, but hey what can people say its something that everyone wants the thought of financial freedom... (Is that actually something that is for real???). I think that my wife makes a great consultant; she is a people person and has a gift for gab...(Which is needed for this business). For the men who are married to a consultant all I can say is try to keep everyone’s dreams and hopes up and be there for a support person. Believe it or not I can probably sell it myself LOL.

For the people who like selling it, GOOD LUCK... for the people that don’t like it... I am sorry. And good luck on what ever it is that you do.

Anyone want to talk, feel free to email me, or post a reply

Keith:

The more I read your post, the angrier I get.

This is a decision we all made? No one made this decision for us?

Nobody held a gun to anybody's head, that's true. Nobody forged someone's name on a check or credit card slip. You're so right. You're just so absolutely positively right.

These people managed to catch us with our guard down. How did they do this?

They came across as our friends. They appeared to be women showing other women how to succeed and become financially independent.

I know that every salesperson does almost exactly the same thing... they try to come across as being there to help me. They show me why I should spend money to buy their product or service, and how I will be better off if I do. Sometimes, they may even try to claim they're only doing this because they're my friend.

But the difference is that I know their purpose is to sell me something. I don't think the victims of the Mary Kay inventory loading presentation know that's what it is. They're receiving advice from the person who is supposed to help them learn how to work the business. If they can't trust that person, obviously they shouldn't be learning the business from them.

And that points out what the problem is ... it's an abuse of trust. Someone says: "Look, I'm here to help you. Follow in my footsteps, and I will show you how to succeed. I will help you every step of the way. Surely goodness will result if you just follow my instructions."

Not every Mary Kay beauty consultant abuses their trust this way. Quite likely, it's just a minority. Most people have a sense of right and wrong, and can't stomach the thought that others will suffer as a result of their actions.

But Mary Kay corporate can't avoid blame. They have set up system to provide incentives for this kind of behavior, and to discourage consultants from exercising their right to exercise the buy-back option. Their goal is to increase sales volume. The inventory loading presentation serves that purpose, at least in the short term. It's not likely they will be discouraging anybody from pushing those inventory purchases.

Eli, If your friend runs out and starts a restaurant business and asks you to do the same will you???? Mary Kay makes it profitable for you to start a viable business. It is no different than shopping at the mall at Christmas......the buy one get one free or buy two get one free....the bottom line is the need and self discipline! Shopping at the grocery store when they have their blow out sales it's no different......When you find a good sale you call all your girlfriends and family and brag about the great sale you found and tell them they just can't miss it....you are selling for that store and don't even know it! You are using the trust that other have in you to influence them about a sale and you don't even get paid for it. How crazy it that??????? If I am going to get people to buy stuff it might as well be for myself instead of some company who makes 100% profit from your advertising!!!!!! MK is a good product.....there are many levels that you can order at I started with $180 in inventory that I borrowed and eight years later I am still in MK......the only thing that I wish is that when I started the company 8 years ago they didn't offer these bonuses! If I was starting today....I would start with full product inventory.......even if you take the 90% buy back all the free product is yours.....it more that covers the 10% that you risk. MK takes a much bigger risk on you because that 90% you send back goes in the trash!!!!!! They can not resell it! Today there is no risk in this business, for the most part you will use the supplies in your starter kit...the free product bonuses are always the hottest items....even if you send your inventory back and keep the free stuff you will either use it or give it as gifts. MK corporate is in business to make money.....What business isn't?????? Stores all have sales projections (goals) and they run the sales to entice you to spend more money.....you know that they are want you buy more. The difference in MK is that when you start out with no inventory you experience frustration and are ready to quit a lot faster. Over my 8 years I have built my inventory to about $4000! I was not fortunate enough to have the means to start with full product. But would you open a dress store with 3 dresses?????? No you would start with a full inventory of dresses. MK is a business nothing else.
