Why should your MK director call you if you leave? I mean what is the sense? She has to call those who are working. Im not saying that she shouldnt be your friend but unless you need her advice for something what is the sense? Does your old boss or people who you used to work with call you everyday? Im not saying some harsh things have not gone on in MK but there are TOO many people blaming the company and the director for not selling. Im NOT talking about the people who made a good effort or who were bullied into or made to feel guilty for not putting in big orders. I think some consultants get the sense that this director is NOW their close friend and by the way I DO agree she should not give the impression she is your close friend she is your business advisor at this point. It gets touchy here because the emotional factor is into play and I can see how some people feel they were taken advantage of and I know how Laura and others do feel. I have to tell you this though I DO believe its possible to be successful and NOT at the expense of others but some of us are so wrapped up in material greed in ALL companies that the feeling is spreading like wildfire!!! I think the best way to go into MK (and its funny there was a posting where someone said they were NOT given any ideas on how to market the product) is to educate yourself and go to your meetings. There are not that many meetings I know of where they DONT teach you how to sell the product, you can go to the Internet and if you dont have a computer there is the consultants guide there is no reason why someone cant learn how to sell the product especially if they have inventory if they dont have inventory I can see them feeling a little lost. These directors the good and the bad and consultants who are working are very busy and I can see why their time is precious and the best time to connect with your director is at the meetings. If you have a computer and cant make it to the meetings you have the consultans guide and its not impossible to find a sister consultant who is successful. I know that there are some of us who dont have money and some who are disabled like myself and others who for whatever reason the timing may not be right but for those who have the resources and the ability I just dont see why the sales of those products cant be made. I know you have to take the economy into consideration and that is a determining factor but for the most part those products can be sold,
Steph,
I believe the poster had some valid points.....bosses in 'corporate' America, as it's referred to in MK, do not attach the level of emotion to their employees or team members as they do in MK. My boss (at my regular job) does not tell me to call her 'whenever' I need her, that she is available to me, that she 'loves' me, that she 'believes' in me, that she thinks I am 'incredible', etc. etc. etc. This is what consultants get. Especially new ones. When women, who are emotional anyway, God forgive us, sense that those words of encouragement and all the other emotional statements used on them in the beginning or 'while they were working....aka ...bringing revenues to the team', are simply and quickly cut off along with all other form of communication from the ones they revered, they are hurt. Period. As Wendy pointed out in some archived posts.....the TRAINING she received at Leadership 2004 stated what the company EXPECTS from it's directors regarding them leaving their careers. They are to #1....help them get rid of as much inventory thru a product preview, etc., as possible, if that is possible and then help them pack it up and return it to the company. This company is supposed to be about real, sincerity........when it is not experienced, people get hurt and do not have very nice things to say, which, I for one, do not blame them at all.
You are left feeling like all you were was an income producer....some directors have made statements like 'the consultants will suck the life out of you'...these statements are based on what I've been told by other directors. That's nice, isn't it?
Also, in corporate America..........when someone is given a new job, they are not left with a bunch of papers, internet help, etc., to fend for themselves in learning their job....they have support....they receive real training. When I became a director, in July 2003, my TRAINING was not scheduled til October 21, 2003. That is UNHEARD of in corporate America. When someone is hired into such a position, training is immediate, objectives are set and you are given probationary periods, usually 4-6 months to learn your job, have training documented and have someone appointed to you to train you, etc, much, much, unlike the way Mary Kay does. In MK, you do not know up front what is required from you as a director, the criteria is listed on your agreement which you receive AFTER you become a director, then training usually occurs 2-4 months down the road all the time while you are expected to make the 4,000 production w/o training. Most directors are trying to teach themselves how to organize their business to accomodate this new career level, but as you are told, you need to be recruiting, not organizing.....that's why so many directors fail in their first 3 months, because they haven't a clue how to juggle all of this and are not privvy to the statistics of unit turnover.
We are also told that the meetings in MK are for recruiting purposes, not training, not the kind of 'training' one would expect to start a business......but then again, we are also told that we are to call corporate for all our needs, that's what they are there for....I think everyone is a bit confused. I understand that a director's time is conditional and we are told that....it's conditional to those who are placing consistent orders, in many cases, conditional to the 'stars' of the group. I've taken exception to that in my previous posts. A full time director has the time to call someone back, failure to do so is plain old rude in any forum.
Oh well, just some of my thoughts this early a.m. regarding your response to the anonymous poster.
