Mary Kay for Life!

Mary Kay was a life saver for me. When I started this company I was a single mom of two, no formal education, I worked 1 full time job and two part time jobs just to make the bills. I borrowed (begged) the money from my boyfriend for my showcase and presold product to all my doubting family (I showed the samples collected money and then ordered), to start with $180 of inventory. Eight years later I am still with this company!!!! I can't image where my life would have been without it.

Inventory......is a choice! Depending on the amount of appointment you plan on holding should determine your inventory decision. Starting with a $180 has made me appreciate the inventory options! At each level there is great free product bonuses. But you have to be true to yourself. If you don't plan on holding more that 1 appointment a month plus your own personal use.....a $600 would be good. I suggest the $1800-$3000 depending on the person.....This is not a lot of product and if you hold 3 classes its almost gone! You are already in a reorder situation. The other thing that I have seen is women who make the choice of ordering over half of their stock in COLOR Cosmetics. Skin Care and suppliments are the flagship of this business. It what Mary Kay Ash founded this company on!!! You will sell what you use! If you use the products, you will love the products and you will sell the products.....I have terribly oily, blemish prone skin. I used the product for 6 years prior to joining MK. I was soooo poor that I was a hostess at least once a month so I could earn free product!!!! What I didn't earn I made installments on. It was the only thing that cleared my skin....I was desperate.......No one ever shared the opportunity with me. Finally, one day I joined church and my consultant had moved away....I was search for MK. I overheard this gal talking about it and I walked up to her and told her I wanted to sell MK because I could not be without it again......the next day she was killed in an accident. I searched out another gal and signed up with her. She was aweful!!!! She was not nice to me and she only spoke to me to ask when I was going to order. My director was snotty and I didn't care for her much (today we are great friends) but I went to Monday's and company sponsored events....I used the products and I sold the products.....after 8 years I have built my inventory to a full skincare based inventory .......I sell it all because I use it all......If you have to twist someone's arm to join MK it may not be for them. Share the information, encourage them, let your director train them. Inside that showcase is everything you need to know about building a solid business....from setting up your class to becoming a National Sales Director. Everyone's showcase is the same. Its all a choice. Mary Kay gives the outline of how women have been successful....if you choose to follow you can have it all! If you choose not to, you will be the unhappy quiter that bad mouths a company that has empowered thousand of women to live lives they could have never dreamed of. If I never earn another dime in MK this company has made me a lady, it has grown my self esteem, it has made me a solid christian women (thanks to the friendships with other Christian Women in this company), it has taught me how to dream, but most of all it has taught me how to empower my children to make good solid mature choices in life! I am honored to be with this company!!!!!! Today I am married to that boyfriend who supports me in my MK business, I own my own home and my two children are smart good choice making teens. For me and my family its Mary Kayfor Life!

Michelle:

It's great that you are happy with MK, however, you are in judgement (as a Christian, no doubt) of classifying those who leave as quitters who 'bad mouth' the company. I don't think that is showing any compassion or consideration as to why some may leave. Some are angry with the company and have a right to express that in this country, some are angry with how they were manipulated in this company and by the company. While your personal growth is awesome, I think that you can also attribute your spiritual growth to God, God may have used your MK experience to lead you to Him and ultimately it is God you should give the glory to. Watch out for those you condemn, you did not walk in their shoes nor do you know their stories.

Laura,

I am not in judgement. I admit I could have worded that sentence a little different. I don't think that all women that get of Mary Kay are quiters. I believe that some try it, realize it is not for them and that is ok. I guess what I am trying to express is that if you join MK and then leave it is best to say that it wasn't for me. I think that all these people on these sites that ARE saying bad things because for whatever reason they blame MK as the problem instead of just staying it wasn't for me. For those who are Christians that are talking bad about MK are in judgement as you say. What if that is the plan God has for them????? I am told to judge people by their fruit. That is why I admitted in the first sentence that I could have said that different. We are not above correction and I thank you for catching that! I don't want my name among the slanderers. Thanks Laura!

Who is telling you to judge people by their fruit? If you are quoting the Bible, it states in Matt. 7:16a "Ye shall know them by their fruits"......and in Matt. 7:1 "Judge not, that ye be not judged"

We are not to judge anyone. No matter what the reason is why someone decided to no longer be a MK Consultant, does not make them a quitter. Yes, maybe it "just wasn't for them", but they should have equal opportunity to share why they got out, just as many women share why they continue in it.

Hi Michelle:

There are so many reasons why women leave and women, most women I know express their feelings in order to heal by people who have hurt them in this company. When someone pushes, lies or manipulates anyone to do anything to get something for themselves.....which, maybe not in your situations or your area, but all too many situations in this company, then I think it's totally right to put blame where blame is due. When the company teaches to misrepresent the opportunity by not disclosing critical facts of true financial pictures, then it is correct to blame the company for being misrepresentative. Already corporate is changing what it is saying, as in the recent Fact or Fiction issue of Applause magazine.....perhaps people are getting sick of being misled....something is going on for them to address the issue of Fact vs. Fiction. They need to add to that list, for sure.

Even when women leave, they are still 'scripted' as to what to say. Each individual woman is on her own in that area and many just choose not to talk about it. But if asked, I will tell them the truth. The truth. I could have saved tons of money, time and effort because I would have never pursued directorship had I known before that you could lose your unit for 2 mos of non-production and gotten the truthful answer from the directors I spoke to regarding what happened. Their answers or answers about directors who left was that they 'stepped down'. If that's what they did, then fine, but I wondered why? Then it was 'they didn't work their business', but no mention of the 2 month, you're out rule. Too many scripts and half - truths in the business and really, that turns women off and that's why the eye rolling about MK. It's called phoniness...women want and need real live answers about this or that. It's respect also.

Slandering is spreading lies about something, I don't think you did that, just kinda blanketed a group with a not so nice label, but I don't blame you, it's what you're taught....I am glad things are going well for you, truly! See ya.

Michelle,

I understood your post and I do not believe your intent was to call people "quitters." Those who lose a leadership position with MK are usually overly sensitive to the word "quit." As for the statement and scripture below, it's very misleading. Let's clarify it.

< Who is telling you to judge people by their fruit? If you are quoting the Bible, it states in Matt. 7:16a "Ye shall know them by their fruits"......and in Matt. 7:1 "Judge not, that ye be not judged". >

The bible is referencing christians when He says; "Ye shall know them by their fruits." You see, not all christians are who they claim to be. In Matt. 7:1 "Judge not, that ye be not judged", is referring to unbelievers. It's not fair for a christian to judge an "unbeliever" because the unbeliever does not share or practise christian beliefs (bible, 10 commandments, etc) to begin with. So how can they be judged for something they don't agree with in the first place? They can't.

Now the bible DOES say that if YOU are a christian and you see another christian sinning (anger, unforgiveness, lying, cheating, etc), you are to go to that person and tell them. If they don't listen to you the first time, you have another christian go to them. If they continue to ignore their fellow christians, then you wipe the dust off your feet and move on.

The very christians who blame MK for twisting scripture content, are the very ones who twist it themselves to try and prove their point. That's why the bible also says; "Take the board out of your own eye before taking the speck out of others."

Your use of the word "quit" was a mere speck (unintentional) and Christians who twist scripture to prove their point has the board in their eye (intentionally). They should know better or they shouldn't be quoting scripture or using it to try and justify their own view point. "Christians" get angry at MK for misusing scripture for personal gain but they are JUST as guilty when they do the same (of course they won't see it that way).

Your post was wonderful and I am glad that you found what you needed in MK and it is a positive for you. Keep your integrity in your business practises and you'll reap the rewards. Too many people forget that MK is a business, NOT a social club or a church.

___________ This is too funny. First we have someone who is misrepresenting herself on MK Opinions and snowing you guys to death. In fact, the snowjob is so violent, it should be a blizzard!

As with many Mary Kay directors, they misuse scripture and Karen, a former director of 14 years is no exception; so I wanted to clarify some key things. The scriptures which talk about judgement apply to EVERYONE - no specific group. The plank (Karen calls it board, probably from her bible translation) and speck scriptures do not mean intentional or unintentional. It means that if you are judging someone about something you yourself do.

Regarding "ye shall know them by their fruits" - 'fruit' in the bible normally refers to character traits. The 'fruits' of the spirit, (and Christians should be filled with the Holy Spirit) are love, joy, peace, kindness, goodness, humility, self-control. God is merely telling others that we will know disciples (followers of Christ) by these fruits. When people DELIBERATELY LIE, cheat, steal, slander, hate, judge, etc., you can pretty well figure that these are not followers of Christ when they LIVE that way without a repentent heart.

Just thought I'd clarify.
