Enough negativity! On the positive side of Mary Kay: I was able to quit a full-time job because of my Mary Kay business. I worked 40 + hrs. a week & was miserable at my job. Mary Kay has also taught me how to be more positive and to find the good in every situation. I also have self-confidence now, a passion for doing something I truly love, & have learned how to accept people for who they are, not for who they are not. Why are your good directors so excited? Because they truly enjoy what they do & they have a mission to help women grow and achieve beyond their wildest dreams the things that they had put on the back burner because they think they can't do it. Mary Kay does have very high standards, I will admit. But these high standards have helped me become a much better, stronger, & disciplined woman. We are all human - we can not be perfectly groomed, upbeat, & smiling 24/7 - but Mary Kay has taught me the skills necessary so that I can be these things more often than not. My husband loved me before Mary Kay - but he is thankful every day for this opportunity because it has brought out my true potential & he loves me even more for that!

Enough POSITIVITY!!!!!!! (how do you like it? just kidding) You know Kaye, that's great, it's great that you've gotten good out of Mary Kay. I think we can all be WISER somehow from a Mary Kay experience whether it be good or bad, maybe a little prettier on the outside, but personal growth is not limited to Mary Kay ladies. Personal growth comes from knowing that you are loved by God, you are HIS, nothing else compares and nothing else will. In a "God First" forum, just don't make Mary Kay your idol. God hates that.

Our lives should always be conscious of 'doing to others as you would have done to you'. These lessons can be learned in the outside world also. It is not exclusive in MK. Sometimes women see anything but what is preached in this business and thank God they can relate to women in the same boat who are allowed to express their experiences freely on these boards. The women in Mary Kay should take note of how important it is to really listen to all the discouragement and learn from it and change the way it does business.

Kaye,

Why don't you just stuff it? Please, how does Mary Kay make you a better woman? How does any company for that matter? I think this is more pink mantra for the masses. I'm sorry but I'm just not that enthusiastic about the opportunity.

Mary Kay did not meet my expectations at all. It's one big scam. I wish somebody would just investigate this company once and for all and shut them down if they continue to give women and their families the wrong impression.

You want to know why so many director are excited and happy happy joy joy? I'll tell you...you're paying their salary, their commission checks when you, as a consultant order inventory that they "advised" you would be your best bet.

Sorry, I'm through with being a dupe. I don't have endless amounts of money. If this were an actual company, they would send you product you never had to pay for and then sell it to the customer in which they get a cut and so does the consultant. That's how the department stores do it. However, that would be asking for too much.

Congrats on your wonderful MK life. Too bad it's not really the norm.

Whoa Erin, and WHO threatend YOU to join MK? Perhaps you didn't meet your directors expectations either. When I was in HR I saw incredible resumes cross my desk and some even fooled me during the interview. Once they had the job and the first two weeks of "newness" wore off, they finally had to accept responsibility for their job performance and THAT'S where the rubber met the road.

Didn't you fully understand that you were joining a "direct" sales company? Dept stores and direct sales companies have little in common besides selling products. I had no problem with my director making a commission check on my orders and she had NO problem mentoring me. Do you believe a director should train, mentor and encourage you for free? Would you have joined MK if you were expected to do the work and NOT get paid? Does it bother you when the electric company makes their fair share off of your energy use or a sales clerk makes a commission on your purchase?

How does MK make a difference in bettering you as a woman? Self discipline, keeps you focused on the positives until it finally becomes a habit and you no longer look at life as a glass 1/2 empty. People like to be around happy, positive people (including your husband and children). My kids said I became "nice" when I was in MK, why? Because I learned better communication skills, I smiled a lot more and hugged a LOT. My husband did a 90 degree turn around when he saw me dressed in heels and a suit. I no longer needed "self help marriage books" or "how to rekindle the old flame" tapes! I had his undivided attention when I kissed my jeans and t-shirts goodbye 5 days out of the week. That was a wake up call for me, I realized that many women "change" once they hook and marry their man. They no longer go the extra yard as they did when they dated. Other women could rekindle their passion too "if" they took the time to spruce themselves up. A woman in heels, a dress or a suit attracks attention (it's the nature of the beast).

Why do you feel MK is a scam? Did you not read the BC agreement before you signed? Did you not take advantage of the 90% repurchase offer? Were you not told about the money back offer when you were recruited? "If" you were working your business (as you would a job) you wouldn't have to worry about spending endless money. I came in with $600 and ordered my inventory based on my sales (performance).

Nobody can "dupe" anybody UNLESS they allow it. If YOU couldn't say NO to spending more than you had, did you ever ask yourself WHY? Many times the anger that is directed at someone else is really just a facade. They're usually angry at themselves for going with the flow, ignoring their gut feeling and occupying their time with "busy" work like dusting inventory instead of making a phone call. Stepping out of a comfort zone isn't an easy feat for 90% of women. So how do I know all this? Because I joined MK "3" times! The 1st two times I was the proverbial pink piddler! You couldn't find a speck of dust on my product or an appointment in my date book either! So WHAT changed the "3rd" time? ME! I made a decision to STOP talking the talk and START walking the walk. I FINALLY became "trainable." The former "pink piddler" earned her car and NEVER had to sweat keeping it. WHY? Because I believed in doing more in order to build up and pad my car account.

You can either let life happen or MAKE life happen as I found out. Holding a grudge against something or someone doesn't change a darn thing. It just makes you feel bitter, look bitter and act bitter. Chalk up your connection with MK as a learning experience, it wasn't for you and that's perfectly fine. Some people HATE MK because it's just not for them. You're out of MK (I assume), so focus on your own talent and run with it. Everyone has a "gift" but not everyone opens it. Life is too short to live in regrets.

Kathy

Hey all,

Be nice, have opinions. All make their own choices. Some are naive. Some learn late and some learn fast. Some will never learn. Though in the meantime, Be nice to one another.
