I am scaling back on my Mary Kay business; not doing skin care classes or facials for the foreseeable future. I have some health issues to attend to and also want to spend more time with my family this summer. So, I'm servicing my current customers but they don't buy a whole lot. I have a good deal of inventory and would like to move it out quickly and without too much effort. One consultant friend has suggested a 40-50% off sale. Any other ideas besides Ebay? I'm not going to sell on Ebay.

Thanks, Susan

This is Wendy: Why not have a sale where the more they buy the bigger the discount they get. It will encourage them to get more items. You can also have it where each item has to be different from each other. So for instance, they buy 2 itmes, they get 15% off. If they buy 3 then encourage them to get 1 more item because at 4 you give 20% or maybe even 25% but at 3 they still will get the 15%. I know of a very successful hairdresser that does this and he sells 4-6 items to each person this way. If you are willing to give a discount, I would make it where it's based on the quantity because that's exactly what you want to reduce, the quantity of items you have. I would also suggest a final open house if you are up to one of those. I personally have had better luck doing a phone a thon where you give the biggest discount for the first hour 8-9 AM on a Friday for instance and then the rest of the day is a standard discount. You get most of your calls that first hour and I have a message on my phone referring them to my website to order there and take an additional 5% off for going there, or to leave it on my message and since my message records the time, I will honor the extra discount that first hour. I would also make up a few baskets of products and send them with people you trust to their jobs. Have her be a hostess for you by showing items at work and taking orders from the basket. I do this with my very good customers and they get tons of orders. Now I follow up with a facial but that is of course up to you. I have several customers in the medical field and they end up having huge orders from that basket! My biggest was almost $600!

Hope that helps a little. Wendy

THANKS WENDY! How do you advertise your "Phon-a-thon"? Do you send a flyer or call all your customers? I'm not very crafty, so putting together baskets is not my forte. :-)

Susan

Hi Susan: I send them a flyer that advertises it. Do the flyer about 1 week in advance. Then if you have really good customers, call them to remind them. They LOVE these types of sales and depending on your customer base you can sell alot. I usually sell around $1,500+ and don't buy into the fact that they will never buy it at full price again because that has never been a problem for me. They appreciate your sale and will come back and buy more in a month or so. Take Care and good luck! Wendy
