I have only been a Mary Kay consultant for about 6 months now, and I am really frustrated. Now, let me begin by telling you that my director has been pretty good about not being overly pushy with me...

I decided NOT to do the inventory option as I really do not have a lot of that type of money. Well anyway, I all of a sudden got a recruit (by accident). I really didn't recruit her myself but she was ready to sign on the dotted line after a facial one day.

So okay, whatever. Well, so far in 5 weeks she has placed almost 3 thousand dollars worth of "inventory" and orders. So now she's paying interest on something that is just sitting. How can one be certain that what they have will sell? I have a sneaking suspicion that my director (or someone) is now working on her to get these products ordered. It breaks my heart but at the same time pisses me off. She'll get recognition for being on "star" and "target" and all that stuff but has she really made the "sale/sell". Maybe I'm jealous? Who knows.

I have tried to do my business the smart way. Making little sales then using the extra to buy extra. I feel like it's not good enough and I hear the same stuff as every other new consultant "You can't sell products with an empty store..." I sell products but I guess not enough in enough time.

Most of the women I meet already have a consultant or are not interested in Mary Kay. They like what they have and it's working for them. So I leave them alone. I do not want to be that pushy "Mary Kay Lady" but I feel that I have to be in order to get customers. I don't think sales is for me. :(

Someone please tell me it will be okay. A part of me feels like I've let myself and everyone else down. Sometimes I just want to sell off what I have and get out before I get stuck in too deep. Should I get out before my 12 months is up?

:(:(

Just my two cents here...I am getting out after one year. I also tried to do business my way and the smart way, but somewhere along the way I started hearing the warning bells! We are taught that our business is an opportunity to "enrich women's lives" and yet we are to look for women of a "target audience" such as women between the ages of 25-55, women who own a home, women who are married and have children, and women with at least a few years of post-secondary education. I have finally had to ask myself if these are the only women who need enriching or are these the women that will enrich me and others in MK with large inventory orders. My director is very keen on inventory - I now have $8400 in retail which I will be sending back to the company for a 90% buy back and terminating my consultant agreement. You can only hear about something being a "numbers game" and "target women" for so long without realizing that you are one of the numbers and were in fact a target. I do love the product, but the business end has left a bad taste in my mouth. Oh, and for complete disclosure here...my director has emailed me telling me that Satan is attacking me emotionally and trying to use fear to keep me from being all God wants me to be in MK. I am certain that God has more to do with me than just bless me with Mary Kay!

I made the mistake of buying a lot of inventory. I have tons of product still sitting in my closet. I don't want to do MK anymore and need to get rid of the product. How do I go about sending the product back to the company?

To return product to Mary Kay, you need to contact the Product Return Dept. Get their phone number by calling or e-mailing consultant services. Product Return will send you a form that states the maximum retail $$ amount that you can return, based on what you purchased from Mary Kay in the last 12 months. It will take a good 7 - 14 BUSINESS days for them to send you this form, and they are required to tell your director that you requested the form. Mary Kay will pay you at 90% of the wholesale value of your return plus the sales tax that you paid on it less the value of prizes you earned if a star consultant in any of the preceding 12 months.

Note that you can return limited edition items and discontinued items. Be prepared for your director to try to bully you into not sending product back. Also be aware that Mary Kay will charge your recruiter the amount of commission that she earned form your returned purchases.
