Laura - I have to say I am in agreement with you. I heard about the campaign and all the hoopla about it from both my director and adopted director. Mind you I am about to send my inventory back after being a consultant for four years. I thought the same thing you do about the leads - are they going to do it based on "production" on geography or what? Also, to me this is another way for them to dump inventory on me. OK not dump but really encourage me to be a Star. What really got me mad was when I heard they pulled the spot on Desperate Housewives b/c the Million Moms website inundated corporate with an email campaign. So Mk "decided" to pull the plug on that spot. Well, I don't know about anyone else, but I know a lot of women watch that show and I know what a spot during that show costs. It is a high price which means high viewer ship and my guess is MK did research before they told the media buyer to buy and that the research showed the demographics were right on the money for what we look for in terms of a target market. So why pull the spot - oh they forgot to require that the viewers be Christian like - give me a break. So now you are making business decisions (and cutting into my income potential) b/c some group is holier than thou and doesn't like the shows you advertise on? Well I can tell you I was on the fence about sending back my inventory and that was the final straw for me - it is now boxed and going back.

I wish them well and all the people who work for the company well - I have no ill will towards them I simply think that they do not make the best decisions in terms of the consultants - they do in terms of what is best for them and that would be fine if they were the only ones profiting from the business but they are not. While everyone is independent - my director was constantly telling us to "trust the company" they know what they are doping - well to date I have to agree (not just for the advertising reason either)- they know exactly what they are doing and it isn't looking out for my best interest.

MK is launching a huge advertising campaign this fall as most of you probably already know - there is much speculation as to WHY they are FINALLY advertising this much. Some say sales (orders) are dropping as well as many other reasons. Personally, I am glad to see they are helping out the consultants and hope that the ads serve to 'update' their outdated image - now if they'd only do something about skirts/hose/closed toe shoes!

The reason for this post is that they are promising that if you are a STAR consultant by June 15 (last available time to become a 'star' in the current MK year) that you will be on the 'referral' list for those who call inquiring about a consultant in the area. Corporate, as of this writing, has no clue about how they are going to divvy up the referrals generated by these ads - YET, they have a TOTAL CLUE as to how they are going to get YOU on that list! You must PAY at least $1800 in product orders to even make the list (star consultant status).

Anyone want to make any guesses as to how they will divvy up the referrals - or maybe place some bets??? IF you find yourself racking up even more credit card debt (I am not sure if the date is June 10 - if so, too late.. or June 15, in which you still have a few days to make a better decision!) to 'get on this referral list' - consider this -

Corporate doesn't yet know how they will divvy up the referrals; Nothing guarantees you WILL get one; Others may order MORE product than you - making them bigger stars (this is the one I want to bet on!) Will you have to consistently maintain star status to be on this referral list? How long is the advertising campaign? Is it worth your families finances? Have you been on a real vacation yet? If you don't have the money to go on vacation, but have money to buy even more inventory you may not need - why don't you put your family first and take them on a vacation with the money from that star order??

Be careful ladies, especially when they do a campaign like this at the END of the MK year (June 30) and this is not even going to come to pass til this FALL.
