I was very disappointed that she did not tell me that I did not have to order $600 worth of inventory to start, I just needed $400. What a crock. I really love the product though and want to do what you are doing, just sell to select friends.
How do I continue selling and not be underneath my director? I want none of my commissions to go to someone with that kind of integrity. How do I find other women in my area that want to sell Mary Kay the way I do?
Well, the bad thing about MK is that you cannot get "out from under" your director unless you terminate your ID and sign up with someone else. Even if you call to terminate your contract now thru corporate, you still have to wait the 12 months from signing to resign under someone else. I personally don't think that's fair, but it's the way it is. You can get an adoptive director as a mentor (you pick her), but commissions will still go to the director you are signed up under. Only way out of that one is to terminate your ID and wait it out. Many women do that very thing.
There are a number of sites popping up, a new one called http://www.marykayvoices.wordpress.com which is primarily for current consultants/directors wanting to do MK RIGHT. You could hook up with people there and also check my site at http://www.thepinkingshears.org - I have a current consultant group called PinkBEEgone where you could hook up with women and in both places, perhaps find people in your own area.
From your post above, it seems your director talked you into the magic $600 (wholesale) inventory - this makes you (as a new recruit) a "qualified recruit" and the director gets bonuses for recruiting, commissions and car points (if she has a car) for that order. Actually, you could have activated with $200 wholesale (400 retail).
