I've been a consultant with Mary Kay for just over 6 months now. I currently have 3 people on my team with one dropping off soon because she found Mary Kay is just not for her. Though I am sad (because it's my mom!), I realize that a business in Mary Kay is just not for everyone and that's ok. A business is hard work and not something that will happen over night. It takes time to build and to grow. And, it takes effort.
I started my business to get my products at the great 50% discount. I knew that I liked Mary Kay products, so why not get the discount?! Of course in looking at a business, I could see the potential for the future and where a business could take me.
It's easy to get caught up with winning the prizes and even seeing how much I can sell in a week. But truly, I am more rewarded when I can help someone feel good about herself by just simply taking the time to notice her, to get to know her, to compliment her, and build her confidence. You see, the products are just the avenue to pulling out the inner beauty we all have. When you see someone smile, what does that smile tell you? Usually it means we feel good, we're happy, etc. And guess what? That smile is contagious. . .just try it out!!
We live in a society that is so self-focused and negative. How often do we compliment people (genuinely)? How often do we take time for others? How can I help someone else feel important and cared about? I've learned a lot about the answers to these questions through Mary Kay. Treat others how you want to be treated. . .that's the Mary Kay philosophy.
I love this quote: "Change your thoughts and you change your world."
(not sure who said it but it's a good one.)
