We're regularly getting phone calls soliciting magazine subscriptions from a firm that identifies itself as Media Publications.

When I ask for details as to who they really are, they identify themselves as being from Fort Lauderdale. When I ask more questions (or ask to be placed on their "do not call" list, they just hang up on me.

I had some difficulty locating any business by this name, but finally found them through a report from the Southeast Florida BBB. The BBB says they're in Pompano Beach, Florida (about 20 miles from Fort Lauderdale) and they're also known as Heartland Readers Service. The BBB gives them an unsatisfactory rating since they don't do a good job responding to complaints.

Smartpages.com shows these entries:

[ anywho.com shows this phone number as owned by John Swords at a different address in Deerfield Beach... apparently no relation, but infospace.com shows it as owned by both "Heartland Readers" as listed above and by V & G Marketing & Consultants at Suite 207 at the same address... the BBB shows this number as owned by Atlantic Magazine Services in suites 101 and 103 at the same address ] -- EliMantel  - 26 Apr 2001
