Calls to Publishers Clearing House customer service number, 800-645-9242, and their web site technical support number, 800-476-4724, were met with offers to remove from their mailing list the email address that had received the alleged spam.

But this offer did not address the practices that are resulting in the spam in question, which involves third parties that are compensated by Publishers Clearing House based on the responses or orders generated by them. It is not known whether Publishers Clearing House provides a mechanism for these third parties to remove selected email addresses from their mailings.
